MISSOULIANS ON
BICYCLES 2007 WESTERN MONTANA HILL CLIMB CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT
Four new records set
Fifty-five riders participated in this
yearıs Hill Climb, nine more than last year.
Phil Grove of Missoula, took first
place with a 13:04, a time only ten seconds off the course
record that was set in 1987. Joshua Tack (who won the event in
2005) took second with a 13:41, Joe Arnone was third with a
14:00.
Tamara Bassett won the womenıs crown
with a time of 16:08 while breaking an age categorey record.
Kelly Grove was second with 18:27. (Kelly was mistakenly
announced as the winner at the conclusion of the race at the
finish line. Our apologies to Tamara and Kelly.)
Kathy Pierandozzi (who won the event
in 1993) broke the women's 55-64 year old record that was set
in 1985, coming in third overall at 18:58.
Joe Arnone (who won the event in 1999,
2000 and 2001) broke the menıs 45-54 year old record.
Joe's father, Tom Arnone, who holds
the menıs 65-74 year old record, established a new age
catergorey record (75 and up).
The climb went smoothly thanks to the
efforts of the veteran crew of volunteers that put it
together. Wayne Vandeberg was chief registrar and start timer
with assistance from Wayne Kruse. At the top Dick Lane was
chief timer assisted by Steve German and Ginny Sullivan. Holly
Eissenger handled prize distribution.
Of course,
we want to thank Big Sky Cyclery for the use of their shop for registration.
